Interior Design Distance Education – A Great Way to Further Your Education

December 27th, 2009

Are you creative? Do you have imagination? Are you artistic? Then you should consider one of the exciting and lucrative careers in Interior Design. Are you located many miles from an accredited interior design school? Then interior design distance education is a viable alternative. Many programs are offered online so that geographic location is no longer as important today as it was just a few years ago.

Many schools offer distance learning as another way to generate revenue. It is very important to research the institution to find out how the course is presented online. In addition, will you be properly prepared to enter the world of Interior Design? Interior design distance education is a great way for a working person to continue their education or realize a dream.

Interior designers need to be creative and they need to be disciplined, organized and have good social skills to deal with many different clients. Interior design distance education will teach the interior design student how to implement their creative ideas and how to be a successful businessperson.
Interior Designers work involves both residential and commercial. If the student signs up for Interior Design distance education, they may find a specialty that they would eventually like to focus on. The opportunities are endless when it comes to areas of specialty. Designers may focus strictly on a specific industry such as the hospitality industry or perhaps the medical industry where the designer focuses on waiting rooms for Doctor’s offices.

The US Bureau of Labor statistics indicate that three out of ten Interior Designers are self-employed which is four times the proportion for all the professional and related occupations.
Interior Design distance education is not for all design students. You must know yourself; can you work on your own without the structure of a classroom? If so then it could be a great way to further your education and allow you to find that dream job in the Interior Design field.

Grant Money For College Education – 4 Flavors of Government Grants

December 27th, 2009

Grant money comes in more than one flavor for your college education. I’ll explain the four types of grant money and what that means for your college money search.

Federal Financial Aid Grants

Below I have written up a list of federal grants for you to apply to for help financing college.

1. FSEOG Money for College

The FSEOG program awards grants to undergraduate students that have exceptional need. Student who qualify for this one come from very limited means. Meaning not much money. Max award from this program tops out at $4000.

2. Pell Grants

The Pell grant program currently tops out at $4300 per year this school. Standard FSA eligibility applies. Typically, you need to have a family income below $45,000, and the majority goes to those with incomes under $20,000.

3. Academic Competitiveness Grant

The ACG started in 2006 and only applies to first and second year undergrads. Look at the SMART grant program for the last two years. The awards run up to $750 your first year and $1300 your second. To meet the criteria, you need a rigorous course of study in high school.

You should look up your state to see if you can qualify at the FSA website.

4. SMART

A new program called Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent also offers federal government aid. If you have a high tech major, you should apply. SMART applies to third and fourth year students only.

All of the above require that you submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (the FAFSA). Do yourself a favor and use the online FAFSA. The form will update automatically to tell you that you can answer the ACG questions, which is how you apply for this program. For the SMART program, call your financial aid office and ask for help applying.

Do it. You haven’t much to lose, just a few minutes filling out the forms. And if you don’t get enough in grants, try a Stafford or other student loan. They can help.

Last point to consider, your age. If you are 22, you either are now eligible to apply alone or soon will be, meaning you don’t have to include your parents’ income. When I got to that point, I immediately applied for a Pell and got it. Nice.

Finding grant money for a college education doesn’t have to be difficult. There are many more programs to consider as well.

Driver Education Games

December 26th, 2009

Driver education games are fun and informative and a good practice ground for students. While playing games, students are able to test their driving skill and knowledge and also find out where their weak points are. The games are useful because the students learn proper driving methods and techniques without actually putting themselves in harms way.

There are two types of games that can be played – one is the simple quiz game that test driving knowledge. Students can choose from a series of quizzes on various topics. This is a challenging way to test what students have learned in the driver education program, and it also prepare them for their driver tests.

Each question comes with multiple choices, and students will be given their score along with the correct answers at the end of the game. There are plenty of website where students can register for these quizzes and get results instantly.

Video games and simulation is another driver’s education activity. These games put students behind the wheel. By using certain controls, they can drive the car and progress to different levels. Scoring a certain amount of points allows the student to move on to the next level until the highest level is reached. At the same time, students can easily lose the game if they make mistakes. The graphics are very realistic and the games can be quite challenging. Video games are so much fun that parents play with their kids and see how well their children have grasped the concepts of driving. These games include stopping at signals, changing lanes, making turns, recognizing road signs, parallel parking, merging with traffic, parking and backing out of a parking space and so on.

In virtual driving simulation games students can practice driving in a virtual environment. Sitting behind the wheel, players must make their way through busy streets, highways and intersections and make real decisions. This is an excellent way for students to practice and prepare for their driver’s test.
