Today’s world is undergoing rapid changes and the implication of these changes on education and educationalists is great.

Education today requires one to mould a child into an individual capable of contributing effectively to society and to the world community at large. Children in today’s world must be taught to think and not merely to remember. A sense of responsibility has to be developed for knowledge. Without responsibility, learning without wisdom can be a dangerous thing.

The “drive to learn” in children must be aroused. They must enjoy the adventure of planning, feel the thrill of accomplishment and yet be able to cope with the necessary drudgery, which is part of all work.

The art of teaching, like the art of healing consists in discovering the make-up of each child. The teacher has to discover what keeps pupils active. Be able to understand and candidly answer: Why children don’t go to school with the same interest and enthusiasm as they go to play? Or, why they want to throw away books on nature and birds and yet run after butterflies in the garden.

A great deal of the teaching / learning process today is done outside the school. Much information about the world and other human beings is learnt by pupil day after day from various sources. But it is the schools, colleges and the universities, which help integrate these bits of information into wholesome education.

Any satisfactory formal education should achieve at least three minimum objectives -

i) Education should provide the student with the fundamental knowledge and basic skills that he or she will require as a working member of the community.

ii) Secondly, there is the social objective. Education should aim at integrating the student with the society in which he will work and establish the ethical and moral standards that will guide his decisions and give him a sense of social responsibility.

iii) Thirdly, there is the cultural objective. Education should help the student as in individual to be more self sufficient, to develop his or her inner resources and to lead a rich and rewarding life.

By: Sheena Verghis Joshy

In North America, secondary education ends with the 12th grade; any formal education received after high school graduation is considered post secondary. Undergraduate degree programs are available in many exciting fields of study.

The term post secondary education is very broad, and covers every type of training and every level of adult education, from technical certification all the way to graduate degrees. In order to qualify for college degree programs, most schools require proof of a high school diploma or GED. Additionally, a good grade point average (GPA) is required for entry into many of the better colleges and universities.

At the undergraduate level, students may opt for two-year degrees, known as Associate degrees; or Bachelor degree programs, which can take up to four years to complete. If your goal is learning the basics of any field (whether it be the arts, computers, health care, etc.) the Associate (AA or AS) and the Bachelor’s (BA or BS) are the typical choices of undergraduate degrees.

After you have completed an undergraduate degree program, perhaps you are ready now to select a specialty in your chosen field and begin graduate studies. At the graduate level, post secondary education is much more concentrated, allowing the student to become an expert or master (hence the term Master’s Degrees). Those who wish to take their graduate studies to the highest level will seek a good university Doctorate degree program. With a Doctoral degree, the graduate can qualify for positions with authority and responsibilities beyond that of the undergrad, including scientific research and teaching positions.

No matter your position on the academic ladder, Post Secondary Education is always a good choice to get ahead.

DISCLAIMER: Above is a GENERAL OVERVIEW and may or may not reflect specific practices, courses and/or services associated with ANY ONE particular school(s) that is or is not advertised on our website.

Copyright 2008 – All rights reserved by Media Positive Communications, Inc.

Notice: Publishers are free to use this article on an ezine or website, provided the article is reprinted in its entirety, including copyright and disclaimer, and ALL links remain intact and active.

To get started, search for colleges and universities offering post secondary education on SchoolsGalore.com and send a request for more information about specific degree programs that interest you.

By: Michael Bustamante

No matter what path you take in life there is always the necessity for the life sustaining component of an education. Education comes in many forms drilled down to two distinct types; the formal and the informal.

There is no point in getting out of bed in the morning if you don’t learn something, no matter how old or how young, every single waking hour of our lives we are learning.

Never fool yourself that there is no possibility for an education when it is economically just not a viable option for you. There is a never ending supply of ways for you to create a formal education. Libraries are free and plentiful and a wonderful source of information. Join a library and search out information in reference to your subject of interest. Librarians are always willing to assist you if the whole area seems too daunting, many successful people in this world have no formal education, but armed with the personal desire to be successful and the will to win they have educated themselves to a level of expertise and success in many fields which they are able to select. During even the earliest years of our lives education and sustenance are the keys to our survival.

Numbers of the ‘lucky’ members of our society spend many years going through the formal educative processes, schooling us in all forms of communication. Speech, reading, writing, all sciences in their own area of expertise, why is it that we reach a stage in our lives when we are apt to process some thoughts which are so completely negative, when in this age of knowledge the ability to acquire information is endless.

Personally I am of the opinion that it is never too late to learn and many life changing educative processes can begin at any age. It is a well known fact that there are a number of the so called privileged members of our society who have not been the recipients of a well paid formal education, but yet are listed among the most successful members of our so called civilized society. These people saw the opportunity of making the most of their lives and used every moment for the ‘education’ of themselves and now they are the employers of a very high percentage of our society and also employ many of the educated members of this world.

Never let an opportunity pass you by, make every post a winner, use every waking moment of every day and take your own life in your hands and educate yourself in some way each day. You should never let the sun set on a day when there has been nothing learned as each evening brings the end of a day never again to be lived.

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself
-Leo Tolstoy

By: Claire De Gioia

Education is the Key

Education:

the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.

A prerequisite to self improvement is making a commitment to life long learning, you must be a student of life. Education is the key that unlocks the doors of endless opportunities. When we think of education we often think of schools or college. A formal or conventional education is one way of acquiring knowledge… but learning should not simply begin or end there.

There are thousands of people walking around with degrees, certificates, and diplomas that are clueless. This is not to say that there is anything wrong with a formal education, the point is true education is obtained by those with a passion for learning and growing.

Every day represents a new lesson. To experience life abundantly we must strive to learn something new every day.

How do we learn something new every day?

Look at your life and your daily experiences…the good, the bad, and the ugly. There is a learning opportunity in every situation and/or event that occurs in our lives. Living life abundantly means being proactive in improving your life… this means being self motivated, self determined, self disciplined, and oftentimes self taught.

“None of the world’s problems will have a solution until the world’s individuals become thoroughly self-educated.” – Richard Buckminster

“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” -Alvin Toffler

“Only the educated are free.” – Epictetus

“The person with the widest variety of knowledge and skill in any area will have the most luck in that area. Expanded knowledge and skill intensify awareness and expand opportunity.” -Brian Tracy

By: Marenda Hughes Taylor
